Creamy Turkey Sausage and Broccoli Penne

A quick and easy weeknight pasta dish with turkey sausage, broccoli, and a creamy cheddar cheese sauce.

  • 8 ounces penne pasta
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 13.9 ounces turkey sausage, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil penne pasta according to package directions. Add broccoli during the last two minutes of boiling. Drain and set aside.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sautรฉ sliced turkey sausage until browned, about five minutes.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft, about three minutes.
  4. Whisk cornstarch with whole milk in a bowl. Pour the milk mixture into the skillet and simmer until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Reduce heat to low. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted.
  6. Combine the cooked pasta and broccoli with the cheese sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, ensure the cornstarch is fully dissolved in the milk before adding it to the skillet.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
