  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring frequently, until it thickens.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in salt and pepper.
  8. Add the shredded cheddar cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
  9. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine.
  10. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and lightly browned.

  • For a richer flavor, use a combination of cheeses like Gruyere or Monterey Jack.
  • You can add a pinch of nutmeg for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Top with breadcrumbs before baking for a crunchy topping.
