Easy Beef Chili

A simple and hearty beef chili recipe perfect for a weeknight meal.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Add the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  5. Stir everything to combine.
  6. Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a richer flavor, you can simmer it longer.
  7. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Serve with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions.
  • This chili can be made ahead of time and reheats well.
