French Salted Butter Cookies

Simple and delicious French salted butter cookies.

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt, for topping

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined.
  4. Shape the dough into a log, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  7. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 1 inch between them.
  8. Sprinkle the tops with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality French butter.
  • You can add chocolate chips or nuts to the dough for variation.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
