Budget-Friendly, Family-Friendly Ground Beef Stroganoff

A quick and easy Ground Beef Stroganoff recipe that is perfect for busy weeknights. This comfort food classic is flavorful, satisfying, and budget-friendly.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef or ground turkey/chicken
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil or butter
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 8 ounces Mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour or cornstarch for gluten-free
  • 2 cups Beef Broth or chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard adjust to taste
  • 1 cup Sour Cream or Greek yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Parsley optional

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add ground beef, breaking it apart. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove beef and set aside.
  3. Add more oil or butter to the skillet. Sautรฉ onion and mushrooms until tender, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Return beef to the skillet. Mix in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer for 10 minutes to thicken.
  6. Remove from heat. Swirl in sour cream until combined. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use cornstarch instead of all-purpose flour.
  • Greek yogurt can be substituted for sour cream for a lighter option.
