Homemade Peppermint Patties

A simple recipe for making peppermint patties at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Green food coloring (optional)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar and peppermint extract.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat corn syrup and water until warm.
  3. Gradually add the warm corn syrup mixture to the powdered sugar mixture, stirring until a smooth dough forms.
  4. If using, add a few drops of green food coloring and mix well.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls and flatten them into patty shapes.
  6. Place patties on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.
  7. Chill patties in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Melt chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  9. Dip each chilled patty into the melted chocolate, coating completely.
  10. Place coated patties back on the wax paper-lined baking sheet.
  11. Allow chocolate to set completely before serving.

Notes

  • For a stronger peppermint flavor, add a few more drops of extract.
  • Store leftover peppermint patties in an airtight container at room temperature.
