  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned whole tomatoes
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles (no-boil)
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion until translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add garlic and stir for 1 minute.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it up. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Add tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta, half of the mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. Spread meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Layer noodles, cheese mixture, and repeat layers, finishing with the remaining mozzarella.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • No-boil noodles make assembly quicker.
  • Ensure meat is fully browned before adding tomatoes.
  • Resting the lasagna allows layers to set for easier slicing.
