Savory French Onion Sausage Rolls

A simple recipe for savory sausage rolls with a French onion flavor.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine the ground sausage, chopped onion, Gruyere cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Mix well.
  3. Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it in half lengthwise.
  4. Divide the sausage mixture into two equal portions. Spread one portion evenly over one half of the puff pastry, leaving a small border.
  5. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg.
  6. Carefully fold the other half of the puff pastry over the sausage mixture. Press the edges to seal.
  7. Cut the pastry into 4 equal pieces. Repeat with the remaining puff pastry and sausage mixture.
  8. Place the sausage rolls on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, and the sausage is cooked through.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can caramelize the onions before adding them to the sausage mixture.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
