A quick and easy recipe for beef and broccoli stir fry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and the cornstarch. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the beef and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add the broccoli florets to the same skillet. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender-crisp. Add a splash of water if the pan gets too dry.
  5. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the broccoli. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and brown sugar.
  7. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the broccoli. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 1 minute.
  8. Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat the beef and broccoli in the sauce.
  9. Remove from heat. Drizzle with sesame oil and toss once more before serving.

Notes

  • Serve immediately over cooked rice or noodles.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic.
