Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped finely
  • 1 cup celery, chopped finely
  • 1/2 large onion, chopped finely
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 14.5 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 lb pasta
  • Fresh basil (for garnish)
  • Parmesan cheese (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Add olive oil, carrots, celery, and onion to a large pot over medium heat. Sautรฉ for 5-10 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  2. Add ground turkey. Halfway through cooking, add minced garlic, basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook completely through.
  3. Add red wine and simmer for about 5 minutes until the wine cooks off.
  4. Add tomato paste, beef broth, and crushed tomatoes. Combine evenly. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Stir in heavy cream and add more salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cover the pot and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes. If reducing the sauce is difficult, simmer uncovered.
  6. Serve over pasta with parmesan cheese and fresh basil on top.

Notes

  • Simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes for best flavor.
  • If the sauce is too thin, simmer uncovered to reduce.
