Easy Chocolate Lasagna

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 (3.4 ounce) packages instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions. Spread evenly into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 20-25 minutes. Let cool completely.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Fold in the whipped topping. Spread this mixture evenly over the cooled cake layer.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mixes and milk. Let stand for 5 minutes to thicken.
  4. Pour the thickened pudding over the cream cheese layer.
  5. Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
  6. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and chocolate chips, if desired.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until firm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a devil’s food cake mix.
  • Chill the lasagna for at least 4 hours to allow the layers to set properly.
  • You can substitute Oreo cookies for the cake layer for a different texture.
